45 Minute Collapse
Well after the full time whistle I was left personally so demoralised and so too probably every other geordie fan - for once again our mob had let us down so miserably.
A good first 45 minutes was turned on its head as a deflected shot made its way past Given to open the flood gates. Newcastle United fell like a pack of cards as shaky confidence showed its ugly head.
Early signs in the first half of Carr having no left foot for playing left-back played were not heeded at half time when an early goal from Michael Owen settled us down and rocked Villa.
The signs were there at the end of the first half as Villa started to knock at our door. It was quite clear that O’Neill would change things at half time and the shear presence of Harewood made Given injured again… Well that and the deflected shot from Villa’s Bouma after messing about from Carr and Duff got punished with the resulting corner.
We should have held out a rocky storm but instantly we panicked. Another corner and Duff was caught asleep on the post to let in a goal which clearly he should have been covering.
A third after we failed to clear our lines on numerous occasions resulted in ping pong in front of Steve Harper after he had pulled off fine saves previously. Butt couldn’t do much with the ball in mid air and headed straight at Carew who stuck it in the back of the net.
It was then summed up when for no reason whatsoever Carr decides to handle a ball right in front of the referee… Penalty. Up steps Carew to take his hat-trick. A player who more often than not looks like he could score with going out for a week on the big market.
Where this leaves us is clear. Looking straight down at the depths of the Panda Pop League. We are not sandwiched between the Smogs and the Mackems who look like they can win a game.
Players who can actually take some credit from the game are few but Owen, Harper and Milner can take some satisfaction from putting in a shift but there is more than rot going on at our club.
Viduka was benched for what can only be for being a naughty boy? Smith was clearly hopeless second half and Emre was only introduced when 2 down?
Butt is now looking more and more tired and losing his legs/passing. Barton was wayward with most passes and non-existent. Duff don’t need to say anything as well as Carr who should be dropped. Enrique can’t be that bad. Cacapa and Taylor did not particular stick themselves forward for glory.
Villa known for set piece goals only and we have Faye on the bench and Carr one of the smallest players going. Something is wrong with our club and its going to take something special to sort it.
Man United won’t be the start of it? GULP….

I always half expected us to lose, Villa were after all chasing 4th place, however the manner of the loss is worrying… Effectively the only team in the next three games we stand a chance of getting anything from is the Blackburn game, where we have to be the underdogs.
After that we have a run of “easier” games, but we have to get a few wins there or we’re in serious, genuine trouble. I support Keegan completely, but this is a big test for a man out of football for two or three years… All of the other teams around us, as you say, really look like they can win a game.
It’s going to be a nervous run-in.

I am seriously worried mate. I just can’t see where our next 3 points is going to come from. Blackburn at most currently is 1 point. Thats a worry when teams around us are winning! Our cushion is well and truely gone now. Players constantly talking the talk but they never walk it do they. This is not Keegans fault niether. Hes inherited a complete shambles and Allardyce has the balls to say the job was too small for me. Whatever get over yourself… Your crap!

Right, prediction time, care to join in?
Newcastle v Man Utd (0)
Newcastle v Blackburn (0/1)
Liverpool v Newcastle (0)
Birmingham v Newcastle (1)
Newcastle v Fulham (3)
Tottenham v Newcastle (0/1)
Newcastle v Reading (1/3)
Portsmouth v Newcastle (0/1)
Newcastle v Sunderland (1/3)
West Ham v Newcastle (1)
Newcastle v Chelsea (0)
Everton v Newcastle (0)
So 7-14 points I reckon… If we’re on 28 points now, that leaves us on 35-42 points by the end of the season. I think 38 points will be the mark to hit, which effectively leaves us very much on the edge… This really is awful.

Looked at the other teams in that lower levels of the table - I don’t think that we’ve got necessarily a worse run-in than anyone else, despite the next few games being hard. It’s entirely even, so game on…

Im still worried Simo. I don’t like the look of it at all. Be great if we got a surprise win somewhere but I just cannot see it happening. Even with a goal up and 45 mins to go we fall apart. Positives were though first half we were better team. Its like Jekyll and Hyde. Seriously its Sam Allardyce’s doorstep where the blame lies. He had such an easy run in and did shit and thats why the toon fans wanted him out. Unfortunately whoever came in they had a battle on their hands. We must stress this isnt Keegans fault and I think there are things going on behind the scenes with certain players who are bad apples and we are stuck with them. For rest of season id play Faye and Emre in the midfield. We need a team that stays on the field now for the rest of the season and work with that.

Remember Faye was playing very well before he went away to the African Nations big in the air at the back as well.

we’re in a bit of a dogfight, we’ll need to pick up some points from the bigger clubs as well, hopefully pull off draws vs liverpool and manu. Games vs West Ham and Everton are going to be very tricky, those are games we can win, and will need to win to avoid the drop, but we play them away. If we can win at Spurs, and at Birmingham then we’ve also got a good chance.. but i dont know anymore. The players seem to have lost their fighting spirit. I just pray we dont get relegated
