Earn Your Spurs
So we go up against the Spuds knowing that we stay at least 6 points clear after today’s results (however the mackems have jumped above us). We haven’t the worst record against Spurs having won I believe our last 4-5 encounters against them. They tend to be a yoyo of a team (bit like us) but hopefully we can go there not under pressure and surprise a few people and get a result.
Would be no shocks neither if KK goes for the same team that he has in the past 2 games. Hopefully Martins can continue his good form whenever he plays Spurs - hes certainly due a goal and nevertheless looked quite sharp and hungry of late.
One thing is for certain don’t expect a draw… Howay the lads!
March 30th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
Yup, I reckon there’s going to be a few goals… We’ve got the same line-up as the past few weeks so like you I’m hoping Martins can slot one away - he deserves one and his pace is frightening!
March 30th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
I’m in dreamland… 1-4… This is made all the sweeter I’m afraid by the fact that I detest Spurs! It’ll be all I can do to stop myself taking all of the bile we suffered from Spurs fans only a few games ago and ramming it back down their throats on Teamtalk!
Still, this isn’t about rivalry, this is about a brilliant win from Newcastle and the amazing, entertaining football we’ve craved for years - and the man who’s brought it back to us, King Kev!
March 30th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
King Kev! Thats all I need to say for now! Ive got a grin on my face so big and have been in a great mood! Well done the toon! Thats far more like it! What we’ve waited for - for a long long time.
March 30th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
Three words. GET IN THERE!!! Sweet to beat spurs for those points too.
March 31st, 2008 at 8:20 am
I must admit im not the biggest lover of Spurs fans so it makes it the sweeter and KK can start to ram it back down the press’s throats.
March 31st, 2008 at 8:43 am
Ok, now I know I was drunk most of the weekend, but I wasnt THAT drunk?
Did we really just beat Tottenham, away from home, coming from behind, and score 4 goals?????
What a result!! Great result combined with some really impressive attack minded football. Isnt this what we’ve all been craving? Damn right KK should be ramming down the gutter press’s throats. It was always gonna take time, and it probably took a little longer than expected, but personally I’m damn glad to see it.
Truly…….. Welcome home King Kev !!!!
March 31st, 2008 at 10:32 am
You’ll notice that the press who called Newcastle a circus, a mess, a team who are long overdue a drop to the Panda Pop League will start to saying how great it is to see KK back with his exciting football… As long as we don’t forget what these pondlife “journalist” said about us when we were down…
I just want us to get another couple of strong wins with one of them being against the Mackems! We won’t win every game left this season and might take another heavy beating here and there, but we’re definitely on our way back…
On another note, KK seems to be suggesting he’ll only look to bring in another 3-5 players over summer… I suppose if they’re top quality players it might well work, but I honestly think we’ll definitely see the back of Carr, Rozenhal, Ameobi and maybe N’Zogbia whatever happens, so will these players not also need replacing? Then again, arguably they’ve not been used so aren’t really active parts of the squad…
Also in regards to Duff, the FiveLive commentary team noted that Duff hadn’t got up to warm up once all game whilst the other subs were up and down all afternoon, trying to catch KK’s attention. Trouble in paradise maybe? If so I wouldn’t be gutted to see him go, although at the same time he might be of use next season if KK can work the magic he’s worked on the rest of the squad!
March 31st, 2008 at 12:57 pm
You gotta love Keegan though in going for the throat again. We all wanted the rollercoaster with its ups and downs. We’ve had a healthy slice of the downs so hopefully we can continue some momentum for a reasonably buoyant finish to the season. I agree we will take more knocks but they are seriously looking more like a team enjoying their football more now. Same set of players; doesn’t it show what can be done with the right motivation. People may call him a cheerleader but damn that stuff is important. Brian Clough said “Players lose you games, not tactics. There’s so much crap talked about tactics by people who barely know how to win at dominoes”
KK has deployed them differently aswell so there’s a bit more to it but I love that quote
March 31st, 2008 at 3:26 pm
WOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!! I could not believe what i was watching! i could not believe this was the same team!! i was so excited my wife had to tell me to calm down. ok.. well played gents, seriously after a wobbly start we had them. all game. i thought nicky butt had his best game for us in a while, i thoght beye was great going fwd, i really really enjoyed owen coming back to fetch the ball feeding martins and viduka. martins was energetic and took his goal oh so well. owen showed why he is one of the most deadliest finishers. but, i dont wanna get too carried away, i mean its a fantastic result for us, but spurs were also very poor. we really need to carry this streak fwd, next week reading, and they are gonna be in for a fight, being threatened with relegation and all, we need to take three points and be a ruthless, we mustnt come out and expect a win. HOWAY THE LADS!!!!!!
March 31st, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Cant say I would be sad to see Duff go tbh. He has woefully underperformed for us and if he’s unhappy then let him walk. I think in an attacking sense Zoggy shows more overall, however I realise we may lose him.
Realistically, looking at the remaining games I can see about 9 points that should be achievable. More would be nice, but lets be sensible eh
March 31st, 2008 at 5:14 pm
Does anyone else wonder whether, with him now having lost a bit (although definitely not all) of his pace, Owen might consider this position in the long term? He seems suited to it and the switch appears to have coincided with our little run of form..?
March 31st, 2008 at 5:23 pm
I wouldnt get too carried away with Owen playing in the deeper role. Its great to see he can do it but hes the only one in the squad currently who has the intelligence and ability to pull it off. Hence him playing there. Next season there will probably be another 2 players who can fill that role and Owen will be looked at more to be receiving such service. It proves that if your a good player you can play anywhere in side unless your as short as Owen and can’t play in central defence…
March 31st, 2008 at 6:00 pm
True, but it does seem to allow us to play our three best strikers (although I’m still not entirely convinced by Viduka, although I may be proven wrong) and Owen appears to be more effective there. However I definitely agree we’ll see midfield signings come what may.
At the moment though I’m increasingly excited to see who we sign. There’s some mention of a Scandinavian defender currently plying his trade in the Dutch leagues, about 25 I think… We’ll see!
March 31st, 2008 at 10:25 pm
One thing is for sure the papers and players agents will go into overdrive as we are linked with this that and the other… Alot of it will be shite yet many fans will eat it up as ever and believe it as gospel. Even if KK kept us mid table playing the football the way its meant to be played id be more than happy over the next few years - the stability for once would be nice. But we’ll certainly still have our ups and downs - it wouldnt be Newcastle without them.
April 1st, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Jesus H. Have any of you checked out the Teamtalk page for NUFC? Words fail me tbh.
Am so glad I got tempted away from there by this site !!!
April 1st, 2008 at 3:32 pm
Yup. Spurs fans are so bitter, what is wrong with them?! Very few seem to have any class whatsoever. One or two said “well done” but appear to be in the minority. Maybe it comes from constantly being in your local rivals’ shadows… Either way the easiest thing to do is laugh at them, they spend all season slating us and then we slaughter them home and away. Twice.
April 1st, 2008 at 10:53 pm
haha aye, couldn’t resist having a look at theirs too. Some poor nancy even suggested the possibility of match fixing…
April 2nd, 2008 at 7:50 am
As I thought, the problem stems alot from newcastle fans going onto their board to gloat etc. Chimps ………
April 2nd, 2008 at 9:24 am
True, but I think it’s a two-way road, from looking at both there’s more Spurs fans on the Newcastle page than vice versa. Still doesn’t excuse it, it makes both sets of fans look like morons…
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:19 am
Success doesnt need excuses.
Is anyone here shocked by the response? I certainly aint. Its probably alot of 10 year olds not that all 10 year olds are like that mind.
Well I hope we can progress the site. Like I said few things lined up in the months ahead its trying to fit them in
BACK TO FOOTY THO! Already Aaron Lennon being linked with the toon. He was first linked strongly under Glenn Roeder’s management but Lennon made a shock appearance for England which put an end to a £2.5 million signing. Potentially this deal could see Zog going one way and Lennon the other perhaps. I say though if we can lets have both? Perhaps we can peddle them Duff? LOL
April 2nd, 2008 at 2:52 pm
The Duff idea sounds grand but I doubt it’ll happen! I must admit of the two, skill-wise, I’d rather keep N’Zogbia. He can cross and shoot a bit better in my opinion. Still, if Keegan can get the best out of little Aaron, he might be worth paying for. Unfortunately the story is that Liverpool want him too - and where would you go?
April 2nd, 2008 at 2:53 pm
…I could see us signing Pennant… Sigh.
April 2nd, 2008 at 3:20 pm
According to this article:
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11678_3376660,00.html
We’re looking at:
Jose Antonio Reyes (Atletico Madrid)
Bafetimbi Gomis (Marseille)
Luis Fabiano (Sevilla)
Anyone heard of the last two? What do you think to Reyes, where would he play, attacking midfield?
April 2nd, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Reyes would be forward/left side midfield. I can’t see it happening though tbh as he don’t like the cold though he was young then and his stock has fallen a bit. A good player though if we can get the best out of him. For £5million id take him for the squad. Bafetimbi is supposedly the next drogba and plies his trade in the French league… Luis Fabiano bit of a trouble maker (Brazilian) but reminds me of Asprilla if KK signs him. Good striker knows where the back of the net is very strong and powerful. One of Sevilla’s best players but I can see alot of clubs in for him. Not quite sure if we need him though? Id prefer for us to sign another striker and splash the rest on the midfield engine room and defence. Our squad needs bulking up.
April 3rd, 2008 at 10:32 am
I agree, one big striker along the Drogba lines would be great. He can replace Viduka, who we’d keep onboard for maybe another season. Carroll could maybe go out on loan for the season and replace Viduka the season after.
I still maintain we need an attacking midfielder (to replace Emre or Barton assuming he goes down) and a defensive midfielder to slowly replace Butt. That along with two centrebacks, a leftback and maybe a winger assuming N’Zogbia goes. With seven players to buy (at least?) KK, Wise and co will have a busy summer…
April 3rd, 2008 at 11:35 am
Yeah exciting aint it
I cant wait!
April 3rd, 2008 at 2:24 pm
It wouldnt surprise me if we get linked with Darcheville at Rangers. It won’t happen I don’t think as hes old now but I bet the papers end up linking us with him… Keegan is looking up in Scotland a bit and the papers will put 2 + 2 and get 99 or summit. His contract is up in a year just you watch
Typical paper crap. I wouldnt mind us sniffing around Richard Dunne though at Man City. There is a player I think we are capable of getting.
April 3rd, 2008 at 6:53 pm
Anyone looked on Teamtalk today? We’ve got an article called “Butt plugs talk of thrilling football”… Quite funny but hardly a serious news site!
Richard Dunne might be good, although I really want us to set our sights as high as possible. Particularly when Keane might be handed a £40-50m transfer kitty this summer… Plus he’s looking to spend that on only 3-6 players. If it comes true they could actually pose quite a threat… Do they honestly have that kind of money?!
April 3rd, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Naaa thats just rubbish paper talk. Next it will be Aston Villa have £30-50 million to spend. Week after Spurs…
April 4th, 2008 at 10:10 am
By the way, has anyone else noticed how much KK is bigging up the players? It’s great to see him coming out and telling the world how great he thinks the players are, it must give them a real bounce in their step. Having said that he needs to be careful about how often he does it as it might start to look disingenuous - he’s come out in the media to say how highly he thinks of:
Enrique 04/04/08
Geremi 03/04/08
Barton 02/04/08
Martins, Viduka and Owen 01/04/08
Etc etc
I’m not complaining, it’s great to see a manager who openly supports and praises his players, however he needs to be careful…
April 4th, 2008 at 10:46 am
They’ll be sold soon some of them
He doesnt want to be giving anything away about which players he loves most… So if a club wants a player they gotta pay! But quite naturally while things have picked up hes gotta pat them all on the back so they feel great. Its KK’s strength and they’ll come out twice the player onto the pitch for it.
April 5th, 2008 at 11:22 am
To perform they have to believe. If you don’t believe you can win you basically don’t. Sam hammered their belief by playing shite systems and trying to be too smart with his irritating percentages BS. It also really made me laugh when I read KK talking about the fact that Taylor was the only english speaker in the back four. I think this team even without fresh faces is capable of a much more comfortable points haul under KK. I’m sure we’ll see plenty changes though but I’d really like to see us buy for NUFC not buy to have superstar xyz here. That’s why KK fits. He is Mr Newcastle United, Not Mr “I-am-a-top-man-in-my-field”. Sir Bobby was the same.
April 5th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
According to the Daily Heil (why am I continuing to type, knowing they make up EVERY story?), we’re looking at Rui Patricio and Miguel Veloso of Sporting Lisbon. Anyone even heard of these two?
April 5th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Rui Patricio is a keeper
Check this out : http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ccm-psFUKQA haha
and Miguel Veloso Defensive Midfielder. Not seen him.
April 5th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
…I think Chris Mort should agree that we’re pretty close to having enough breathing room to discuss transfer targets now… Great to see all three strikers on the score sheet - Portsmouth is going to be a hard one but we finally go into the game full of confidence!
April 5th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Ive had alot to drink so i’ll comment 2moro
Come on the toon!
