Fresher Turkish Delight Please!
Well apparently Newcastle United have made their first summer offer on a player in the form of Arda Turan. Turan is a Turkish left winger who currently occupies a shirt number at Galatasaray and is 22 years of age.
The bid is believed to be in the £9million region but whether we get him for that remains to be seen. It seems that Newcastle are going to play hard ball in the transfer market and put in some cheeky bids before Euro 2008 starts. Its then up to the selling clubs to run the risk - still they hold most of the cards.
No sooner had one Turkish player left then another is seemingly being targeted. Its good news that it looks like Keegan will be backed in the market. The new plan for our buying seems to be young and hungry players that don’t command ridiculous sums of money in wages for the swan song of their career. It makes complete sense as well. I personally find it far more exciting when we sign players slightly unknown with potential and hopefully see them blossom. A fantastic example at other clubs being Ronaldo at Manchester United - if only in a black and white…
Currently we are being linked with Dean Ashton, Arteta, Shaun Wright Phillips, Crouch, Shorey, Riise, Giles Barnes, Sidwell, Aimar and Collocini. There are more but then I’ll be going on forever!

I’ve always liked Riise. Proven, experienced and professional EPL defenders cannot hurt in our position can they?

Shame Ashton has opted to stay at the Hammers but has he actually penned the contract?

On Risse my only worry is does he think it would be a step down and his wages could be silly.

Well it is a step down the way things stand. Only he knows if he would still give 100% i guess but on the surface he seems that sort of player. Wages aye maybe.

This Turkish lad could be a gamble - a young player from that far away always is - but he could definitely be worth it, he’s said to be the best Turkish player out there and they’ve produced a few handy players…
As for Riise, I’m in the cautious camp. He could easily come here, realise that he’s never going to hit the heights of the Champions League again here and happily trot along at 70-80% effort like so many before him. He’s a good player and I’d love him here, but only if his heart was in it. The same goes for a number of players currently at top 4 clubs…
