Now Your Talking!?
According to the papers today (not that we believe one word of them) Rafa’s Little Goatee is interested in signing James Milner for £10 million after he decided £15 million was too much for Bentley.
Now I’ve had my say on Milner many a time on this blog now in that I don’t think his decision making and final ball is good enough. The argument back is that he is young etc and full of endeavour but I feel that only gets you so far. I remember a certain Aaron Hughes being very similar.
I think if its true and £10 million comes in we should snap their arms off and let Keegan spend it how he wishes. Whether that is 2 good signings or stump up the extra £5 million for Bentley.
I for one think there is alot to be said for the way we played towards the end of last season without Milner in the team.

I quite like the lad and am hopeful he can be trained to improve his final ball. If he can, he could really be handy.
Having said that – swap him and £5m for David Bentley..? Where do I sign?!

I think Milner has been here quite a while now and I wouldn’t say hes really upped his game. I am full of praise for his work ethic but I don’t think he’s got that international quality in him. If he had I honestly believe he’d have been called up by now. I think that says alot. He doesnt have bundles of goals in him, he doesn’t have a great final ball whilst trying to beat players too many times and he doesn’t have a consistantly good cross in him. I honestly think if that offer comes in then KK will let him go and bring in another replacement… Shame we had to get shot of Solano as I still think he could do a job or help another player settle in.

You may well be right. Either way I’d agree that, playing at the standard he is currently I’d want someone else to come in to take his place, with Milner on the bench (and trying to improve his game). Hence I’d happily see him stay as a promising squad member who has a great work ethic, but if we could sell him and replace him with the finished (but young) article, then it’ll obviously improve the team.

Yeah I think we are all about kind of balancing the team up to perform with experience and mixing in some young talent around it. Youth works well in a performing team but a one that is struggling nope. Too much pressure is put on them then.

As a side note, I’m gutted to see how well Modric seems to be playing… I’m happy to be patient as I think the signings will come, but I reckon we’ll see a number of stars of Euro 2008 signing to English clubs so we’re going to need to bring in some very goos players just to stay at the level we are currently, let alone improve…

I couldnt agree more Simo. I think our policy is clear. Young, hungry and promising without the huge ridiculous wages. My only worry is we miss out on our targets. I agree though I think most of the business will be after the tournament.
