An Odd Rumour?

Ive heard a very odd rumour on the grape vine. Don’t know how much credit to give it but piecing things together could be realistic.

We apparently look like selling Smudge to the Toffees for £3 million… I have heard about a possible deal involving us signing David Healy from Fulham for £1.5 million. Now he has more legs and a possible better eye for goal. Hasn’t set the world alight at Fulham but in a better team may be capable of more goals. He is his international record scorer scoring some amazing goals.

I would rather do this and have someone who is backup to Owen and Co. who is capable of scoring a goal but realises he’ll be behind them. He as more legs as well for running about. He’d probably not even be half the wages of Smith and would be half the cost effectively replacing Smith with a more effective player for us.

Add to this the fact that Andy Johnson has just signed for Fulham and you could get 2+2=4.

Interesting one and just thought I would post it up here to see what you guys think?

Here is a clip or what he is capable of…

The Legend That Is Sir Bobby

It has came out today in an interview with Sir Bobby Robson that he is losing his battle with Cancer. The biggest gentlemen in football who acted in dignity with the way he was treated by bandits who used to run St. James Park.

The doctors has confirmed that he is unlikely to lose his battle against lung cancer. Sir Bobby has thanked the doctors and nurses for the length of life he has had after battling cancer previously and said he is looking to enjoy the remaining days he has to the fullest.

“I have accepted what they have told me and I am determined to make the most of what time I have left.”

“I am going to die sooner rather than later. But then everyone has to go some time, and I have enjoyed every minute.”

“I have been fortunate to survive this long. It is thanks to the doctors and their dedication.”

Sir Bobby Robson is and always will be the great ambassador of global football. If only we had more characters like him the football world would be a better place.

I am sure I speak for us all when I say our thoughts are with him and his family.

Some Goals!

Well our friendly with PSV brought us some goals from Taylor and Guthrie in the first 10 minutes of the match. We were later pegged back with PSV’s equaliser coming in the last 10 minute after a variety of changes for the Toon. Good result looking at things.

Alan Smith did not feature with KK stating it was injury which ruled him out with the surrounding rumours of an imminent switch to Goodison. There was appearances for Given and Beye as well.

Coloccini Signs?

Well according to Deportivo’s official website Fabriccio has signed with Newcastle after the paperwork was complete yesterday. Who knows after some of the twists and turns? Best waiting until the club officially confirms.

Weekend Round Up: Majorca Cup

Well what have we learned from the past couple of preseason games? That so far nothing has really changed. KK is in need of 5 players still (maybe 4 if Collocini finally signs) with 2 new fullbacks, a target man with some legs and a creative playmaker who I have to say we have never gotten into our squad since we got shot of Dyer. Least Solano carried some of that weight but he has gone as well and we have really struggled.

Two bright spots were the performances of Bassong and Duff who had it not been for we would have looked completely inept. Our team sheet certainly would have turned most fans off instantly seeing the name of Smith up top alone.

To be fair we controlled possession in pretty much both games (more so in the 2nd due to less heat) but we never ever looked like threatening the goal apart from the odd Duff scury.

Milner is showing exactly why I would sell if a bid of £8-10 million came in. The lad just does not have a final ball and cant cross to save his life. Its like a token gesture effort where he never believes he’ll pick someone out in the box. It must be hard work if your a team mate running into the box knowing its never going to arrive to you. Demoralising…

Nice to see us Geordies entertaining ourselves with a couple of rounds of the conga.

One thing is certain those fans who have not renewed this season alone will be thinking they’ve made the right decision nevermind those who have signed up for 3 seasons!

Ashley may be being shrewd but if your audience is turned off you have a very big problem!

I just feel sorry for KK if this is left at his doorstep when the final hand is played. I don’t think many fans would be happy to see that however.

Rumour Round Up

Well Keegan has commented he expects 2 of the 3 defensive targets he is after in the next 7-14 days through the door.

These 3 targets are noted as Coloccini, Burdisso and Warnock. We already know we had a £2million bid knocked back for Warnock but we are expected to go back in with a bid around £3.5 million in the next few days which may persuade Blackburn to sell considering he cost £2.5 million. New manager Paul Ince certainly is putting his stamp on a Blackburn team which I honestly feel is going to struggle in the new season and his comments are to be expected as not to rock the boat. We’ll see how that one develops but I think the the other 2 signings are more likely.

Coloccini has been linked with us for about 24 months but his agent has now confirmed that Newcastle are the only club to have bid for the player who has been left out of training with the Deportivo squad. Expect this one to progress quicker than the others.

Burdisso was commented as saying he wishes to stay at Inter Milan this weekend amid the Newcastle links after it is clear he is surplus to requirements under the special one Jose Mourinho. We certainly would have a strong contingent of Argentinian players in the team this coming season if all signings were to come off. Burdisso is notably a right sided defender and would be to provide competition for Beye who did well once he adapted last season.

I would love it for Newcastle to get a big adventurous and throw the money at McGeady and Bentley. It would be hard to get either player but it would show a good sign of intention as the intentions for Modric has been long forgotten.

Certainly the maket does seem to be gathering pace with the mackems picking up a bit of Spurs crap for their team. A man I love to hate in Diouf will now be disliked even more when he don’s the red and white top of wearyside as looks likely. Oh dear… Probably be another few Cork players signed as well…

Free Barton With Every Happy Meal

Joey Barton has walked free from prison. He served a total 74 days behind bars of the total 6 months he was given for his street spat whilst taking in a Mickey D’s.

I would imagine that he’ll be reporting to St. James Park in the next 48 hours for an assessment of fitness considering how weak our squad is looking currently. He is likely now to head off to sunnier climates for training in Spain? Not bad eh?

Keegan has continued to state he will stand by Barton as this is his last chance and has a lot of bridges to mend.

Martins Out

If news is to be true then Oba Martins will be missing for a while due to the sad news his mother passed away in a fire back in Nigeria. We pass on our condolences and best wishes for what would undoubtedly be a sad time.

Weekend Roundup

Well after a slow start in our preseason game against Hartlepool we sparked to life. Having gone a goal down we bounced back by 4 courtesy of a hat trick from forgotten man Damien Duff and new young boy Guthrie.

Good signs considering the team was depleted of many regular first teamers not to mention Hartlepool being ahead of us in terms of fitness at this stage of preseason.

So can Duff continue this form into the start of the season? Who knows? If he was im sure that NUFC fans would give him a chance. KK giving special mention to the fact that this is in fact his first preseason in years. Lets not forget he was badly injured for most of last season and came in midway trying to catchup. Fair play to Duff I do think he has tried in the past compared to some players but it just hasn’t click if you know what I mean? I thought brilliant like many id imagine when we signed him for £5 million under Roeder. If we get him up to speed and chipping in it will certainly be a new signing.

So Guthrie came on for the 2nd half and instantly made an impact by creating a goal and scoring himself. Looks good but we’ll see how hes doing when he comes up against Premier League standard. Certainly KK noted his ability to pass a ball and not give it away even hinting that he’ll become a holding midfielder in the shape of Rob Lee. He certainly has better legs :)

Interesting to see Milner start in central midfield. A few of us on here have noted his poor ability to cross a ball and seen his engine as possibly a better asset channeled through the middle. Lets see if this develops into a more regular role with his skills honed.

Forgotten man Cacapa joined Taylor in defence with Edgar and Enrique patrolling alongside. Martins was joined upfront with Smith as Owen was not thrown in due to a calf strain.

KK after the match noted there will be more signings and was in fact looking for 4 more faces. Whether that tally will go up with the expected departure of Ameobi who knows? He certainly expects to have more faces come the close of the window.

Many are noting it worrying as to lack of activity but KK confirmed like is the case with most clubs that we are waiting on things happening. More to the point everything seems to be a domino effect of one player moving from one club to free up another club to make a move etc etc. Seems we are waiting on a few of the selling clubs to get replacements for their men before we can sign our new men.

One move expected to happen is Johnny Evans from Manure but that seems like it will go right down to the wire.

Certainly expect a few signings to come in late. I know I will certainly feel alot better when another 2 are in… LOL one thing is for sure lets laugh at the mackems who must be worried now!
