Rumour Round Up
Well Keegan has commented he expects 2 of the 3 defensive targets he is after in the next 7-14 days through the door.
These 3 targets are noted as Coloccini, Burdisso and Warnock. We already know we had a £2million bid knocked back for Warnock but we are expected to go back in with a bid around £3.5 million in the next few days which may persuade Blackburn to sell considering he cost £2.5 million. New manager Paul Ince certainly is putting his stamp on a Blackburn team which I honestly feel is going to struggle in the new season and his comments are to be expected as not to rock the boat. We’ll see how that one develops but I think the the other 2 signings are more likely.
Coloccini has been linked with us for about 24 months but his agent has now confirmed that Newcastle are the only club to have bid for the player who has been left out of training with the Deportivo squad. Expect this one to progress quicker than the others.
Burdisso was commented as saying he wishes to stay at Inter Milan this weekend amid the Newcastle links after it is clear he is surplus to requirements under the special one Jose Mourinho. We certainly would have a strong contingent of Argentinian players in the team this coming season if all signings were to come off. Burdisso is notably a right sided defender and would be to provide competition for Beye who did well once he adapted last season.
I would love it for Newcastle to get a big adventurous and throw the money at McGeady and Bentley. It would be hard to get either player but it would show a good sign of intention as the intentions for Modric has been long forgotten.
Certainly the maket does seem to be gathering pace with the mackems picking up a bit of Spurs crap for their team. A man I love to hate in Diouf will now be disliked even more when he don’s the red and white top of wearyside as looks likely. Oh dear… Probably be another few Cork players signed as well…

Yeah.. dont know a hell of a lot about this Colocini chap i must admit, but all three of our previous managers have been keen on him, so maybe he is worth a shout.. but the figure touted is around 8 mill, will we get enough out of him, apparently he is 29?? i have a bad feeling that this is just press talk for him to get a new contract deal at his current club, if he really was keen to come here, surely he would have signed last season?? apparently we have offered duff as an exchange on warnock? what do you lads think about that.. i wouldnt be so against losing duffers, but i kind of like him, and he seems to be coming into some form, it’d be awful if he sell him to blackburn, and all of a sudden he finds some of that exception skills that he has, and uses it against us?? hopefully this week will be a positive one for the mags, and actually sign someone.. and not almost sign someone!!

We are great at almost signings
I think Coloccini is 26 years old mate. There is always that possibility as well that he could be playing us off to get a new deal or sound out other clubs. I take everything with a pinch of salt now until we have them signed on the dotted line and a snapshot taken with their name on the back of a black and white top. I have to be honest dont think ive ever been so bored of being a football fan as I am now. I then think if im like that its worrying times for the club and the premier league. Money I think has at last destroyed the regular working mans game.

Thats looking less likely as a move to play us off though I wouldn’t be happy with the agent constantly stating Newcastle are the only player in for him. Spurs were but are not now as though hes stirring things up a bit but it looks incresingly likely he’ll be a toon player in the next few days. Good move for a defender coming into his prime. Hopefully he adapts to suit the premier league.

Ok, Great, looks like we may get him, not holding my breath thou.. will only be satisfied when i see him in a photo with the black and white shirt on! Looks like i may have to start supporting Argentina in the internationals hehehehe.. how many more signings do we need guys? LB, RB, AM and ST ?
July 30th, 2008 at 9:34 am
Yeah lets start thinking of other players from Argentina
July 30th, 2008 at 9:56 am
Lionel Messi would be a great addition – (Dream on snick)
Carlos Tevez – Dream dream dream!
July 30th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
If we are dreaming can someone please clone a 25 year old Beardsley please?
July 30th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
yeah – and maybe a 24 yr old Shearer..
July 30th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
An at their peak Beardsley and Shearer strikeforce… lol
July 31st, 2008 at 9:14 am
Lets not forget a sprinkle of Les Ferdinand to go on the top. We should never have sold that guy
July 31st, 2008 at 12:08 pm
Aye , i was gutted when Les left. Back to present day and I see spurs have got Bentley..
July 31st, 2008 at 12:50 pm
have you guys read the teamtalk forum lately? Berbatov to the toon? some of the posters there thinks its a possibilty, what do you lads think?.. i certainly do not think it is possible.. if anything he’s already been signed by Manure…
Bentley to Spurs was inevitable i’m afraid, he wanted to go back to london, and Arsenal weren’t going to buy him, and i see they got a windfall payout from the sale anyways so they must be chuffed.. personally i dont think he is worth the 15mill paid.. he is a good player.. but i’m sure there are options in europe far cheaper with the same talent out there.. hopefully our scouting team Wise and Jiminez are earning their keep and soon we’ll get a signing from no where.. bags of talent and on the cheap..
July 31st, 2008 at 2:50 pm
I agree 15m as a gut reaction is too much. Compared to what Fulham have paid for Andy Johnson though? It’s all stupid in my opinion though. lol
July 31st, 2008 at 3:03 pm
My question iis where is Spurs getting all this money? They have spent huge wads of cash in the last 3 years for a club their size and have not had the success yet to counter the expenditure. Do you think they are pulling a Leeds?
July 31st, 2008 at 3:16 pm
quite possibly, they are having a go to get top four this season to pay for all these high priced signings.. unless Berbatov is being sold to whoever, and this 22 mill, plus the 18 mill from the keane signing are balancing the books?
July 31st, 2008 at 11:20 pm
Yeah over a few years they have spent alot. There season ticket prices are quite steep as well though. I do think they could be over stretching but their board is worth a fair bob though. I also think that they are going to pull in a fair bit for Berbatov and Keane. Even if they did buy both Arshavin and Bentley it will be less than they have received for those 2. Mind you they have to find 2 strikers… And they sold Defoe. Hes got to piece that team together to work on the field. Andy Johnson was really a £3-4 million player. The market is so skewed now. The value really cant be justified. Keeping our powder dry for the right players would be a good idea but the issue is… if the right player does come up are we going to fund it? Was Modric a ploy to stir up some emotions in fans to renew… oh its alright Ashley is going to buy. So far its backfired and there will be empty seats in the ground this season. I honestly think anyone who took up the 3 year option must be crackers. I dont know but the more I think about it the more these plans of tying in etc for periods of time are to show figures on books so its rosey for selling the club? I dont know but Im starting to change my mind to Ashleys ploy for the club.

Looks like we are in for some lean times but I am also a believer that with a good manager we can make it work with lesser known names. KK has done it before and He has way more talent at his finger tips now… If he is given free reign to work as he likes and the boys do respond we could see some ‘new’ big names coming from within. I am also starting to get a little worried about Ashley seeing ll his business as one and Newcastle as part of that bottom line… this would mean that the right offer would mean he would sell and this doesn’t bode well for a settled club.
On another note I see Adam Johnson of the hated boro is unsettled… do you think we should go in for him? He is rated and surely wouldn’t be massively priced…

Saw the following on NUFC.com “We look forward to the FA retrospectively landing other miscreants with charges – Vinnie Jones for his testicular adventures down the front of Gazza’s shorts perhaps?
Update: Kevin Keegan to be charged with bringing the game into disrepute for appearing on the Little & Large Show to sing Head over Heels…. ”
This in response to the FA bringing charges to Barton. Thought it was pretty funny cause it has a hint of truth.

I’ve been thinking about this for a little while myself (hoping something would happen to prove me wrong) and basically everything points to no war chest money being available for players. Look at who we have off loaded and who has so far come in and the books are in profit. He has even spelled it out in his comments about seeking investment “this is an expensive chair to sit in”. For sure I’m not saying that is altogether bad news to be shrewd but none of us wanted to become another Villa or West Ham. MA is a very rich man but he is wanting to run this more like a business. In contrast Roman Abramovich is not only outrageously rich but is a bit of an enigma and it’s almost like watching brewsters millions. The sooner he gets bored of English football the better in my opinion. There’s only so much you can attribute to not being in Europe, CL I can understand but does the UEFA cup really hold that much pull anymore? One thing I am absolutely certain of – and I don’t think this is happening – is that Keegan should be present when these players are being met. Many of the old skool players have come out and said he was the reason it was a quick and easy decision.

Hello lads – sorry I’ve not been on much, but like Toon I’ve really been turned off this summer. I must admit I really don’t know where I stand on Newcastle’s future at the moment. We knew we’d have to tighten our belts as Ashley was never going to bail out the club for its massive debt and then simply never expect the money back. He’ll have essentially seen the cash as a (interest free?) loan, which to be honest I don’t have a problem with. Much easier to pay his bank account back than paying off all of the creditors we owed. A rich man who is happy to blow all of his money on the club with no return would be great, but there’s really very few of those around.
Having said all of that, I do get the feeling, at the moment, that we’re having to pay off that debt very quickly, hence the lack of spending. As a result, we’re going to have a lean couple of years, whilst the club is dragged back to being a sound business. In the longterm, this may be good for us. Look at it this way – the company that owns Spurs has done so for a few years now, if I’m right? Yet they’ve only started splashing the cash over the past couple of years – presumably after a period of stablising the club. I guess we’re just in that stablisation period now, which unfortunately means we’re not going to pull up trees for the next couple of years. However in a couple of years time the club will be financially secure, profits will be plowed into buying decent, expensive players, and we’ll have some of that top class youth finally old enough to break into the first team.
It’s just going to be a bit miserable until then, as this year appears to be right now…
August 2nd, 2008 at 11:11 am
Sorry, mis-spelt “stabilisation”…
August 4th, 2008 at 8:53 am
I know it’s not the end of the world but these pre-season results aren’t exactly great. With Owen, Viduka and Martins not playing I guess it’s no shock to see us not scoring but that is still a worry when you think how fragile the fitness of MV and MO is. If we can’t offload Smith or Shola I still think replacement needs to come in even on loan or if we have to wait till Jan. I mean, what if I had a contract would they still bank on me? I think I could be as effective as Smith. lol
August 5th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Its easy to be as effective as Smudge. I really wanted the lad to do well at the toon just dont think he fits in. The poor lad has been messed about too much over the years. If Everton are interested id try and get £2.5million for him and shift his £65k a week wages off our wage bill.
August 6th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Looking increasingly likely that we’ll sign argie bargie Coloccini in the next few days after he is scheduled to make a cameo appearance tonight in a bid to aid poor ticket sales. KK’s hands are tied with regards to the team he can field again. Lone man Alan Smith linked with even more heavily with Everton today provide the goals *cough*. Id love to see it work out for him but it just doesn’t look like happening and I think we could do with a £3-5 million striker with some legs that doesnt insist on chop suey.
