Looking increasingly likely that we'll sign argie bargie Coloccini in the next few days after he is scheduled to make a cameo appearance tonight in a bid to aid poor ticket sales. KK's hands are tied with regards to the team he can field again. Lone man Alan Smith linked with even more heavily with Everton today provide the goals *cough*. Id love to see it work out for him but it just doesn't look like happening and I think we could do with a £3-5 million striker with some legs that doesnt insist on chop suey.

Its easy to be as effective as Smudge. I really wanted the lad to do well at the toon just dont think he fits in. The poor lad has been messed about too much over the years. If Everton are interested id try and get £2.5million for him and shift his £65k a week wages off our wage bill.

I know it's not the end of the world but these pre-season results aren't exactly great. With Owen, Viduka and Martins not playing I guess it's no shock to see us not scoring but that is still a worry when you think how fragile the fitness of MV and MO is. If we can't offload Smith or Shola I still think replacement needs to come in even on loan or if we have to wait till Jan. I mean, what if I had a contract would they still bank on me? I think I could be as effective as Smith. lol

Hello lads - sorry I've not been on much, but like Toon I've really been turned off this summer. I must admit I really don't know where I stand on Newcastle's future at the moment. We knew we'd have to tighten our belts as Ashley was never going to bail out the club for its massive debt and then simply never expect the money back. He'll have essentially seen the cash as a (interest free?) loan, which to be honest I don't have a problem with. Much easier to pay his bank account back than paying off all of the creditors we owed. A rich man who is happy to blow all of his money on the club with no return would be great, but there's really very few of those around.

Having said all of that, I do get the feeling, at the moment, that we're having to pay off that debt very quickly, hence the lack of spending. As a result, we're going to have a lean couple of years, whilst the club is dragged back to being a sound business. In the longterm, this may be good for us. Look at it this way - the company that owns Spurs has done so for a few years now, if I'm right? Yet they've only started splashing the cash over the past couple of years - presumably after a period of stablising the club. I guess we're just in that stablisation period now, which unfortunately means we're not going to pull up trees for the next couple of years. However in a couple of years time the club will be financially secure, profits will be plowed into buying decent, expensive players, and we'll have some of that top class youth finally old enough to break into the first team.

It's just going to be a bit miserable until then, as this year appears to be right now...

I've been thinking about this for a little while myself (hoping something would happen to prove me wrong) and basically everything points to no war chest money being available for players. Look at who we have off loaded and who has so far come in and the books are in profit. He has even spelled it out in his comments about seeking investment "this is an expensive chair to sit in". For sure I'm not saying that is altogether bad news to be shrewd but none of us wanted to become another Villa or West Ham. MA is a very rich man but he is wanting to run this more like a business. In contrast Roman Abramovich is not only outrageously rich but is a bit of an enigma and it's almost like watching brewsters millions. The sooner he gets bored of English football the better in my opinion. There's only so much you can attribute to not being in Europe, CL I can understand but does the UEFA cup really hold that much pull anymore? One thing I am absolutely certain of - and I don't think this is happening - is that Keegan should be present when these players are being met. Many of the old skool players have come out and said he was the reason it was a quick and easy decision.

Saw the following on NUFC.com "We look forward to the FA retrospectively landing other miscreants with charges - Vinnie Jones for his testicular adventures down the front of Gazza's shorts perhaps?

Update: Kevin Keegan to be charged with bringing the game into disrepute for appearing on the Little & Large Show to sing Head over Heels.... "

This in response to the FA bringing charges to Barton. Thought it was pretty funny cause it has a hint of truth.

Looks like we are in for some lean times but I am also a believer that with a good manager we can make it work with lesser known names. KK has done it before and He has way more talent at his finger tips now... If he is given free reign to work as he likes and the boys do respond we could see some 'new' big names coming from within. I am also starting to get a little worried about Ashley seeing ll his business as one and Newcastle as part of that bottom line... this would mean that the right offer would mean he would sell and this doesn't bode well for a settled club.

On another note I see Adam Johnson of the hated boro is unsettled... do you think we should go in for him? He is rated and surely wouldn't be massively priced...

Yeah over a few years they have spent alot. There season ticket prices are quite steep as well though. I do think they could be over stretching but their board is worth a fair bob though. I also think that they are going to pull in a fair bit for Berbatov and Keane. Even if they did buy both Arshavin and Bentley it will be less than they have received for those 2. Mind you they have to find 2 strikers... And they sold Defoe. Hes got to piece that team together to work on the field. Andy Johnson was really a £3-4 million player. The market is so skewed now. The value really cant be justified. Keeping our powder dry for the right players would be a good idea but the issue is... if the right player does come up are we going to fund it? Was Modric a ploy to stir up some emotions in fans to renew... oh its alright Ashley is going to buy. So far its backfired and there will be empty seats in the ground this season. I honestly think anyone who took up the 3 year option must be crackers. I dont know but the more I think about it the more these plans of tying in etc for periods of time are to show figures on books so its rosey for selling the club? I dont know but Im starting to change my mind to Ashleys ploy for the club.

quite possibly, they are having a go to get top four this season to pay for all these high priced signings.. unless Berbatov is being sold to whoever, and this 22 mill, plus the 18 mill from the keane signing are balancing the books?
