Terry Henry For Me
As Keegan spoke last night on a 2 hour phone in on BBC Radio Newcastle he spoke of the one player he would love to bring to Newcastle United – Thierry Henry currently at Barcelona. In our dreams but wouldn’t it be fantastic! Sometimes Keegan has the amazing ability to make them true though but when you look at that style of player you know Keegan is looking at those types of skills even if we don’t get Henry (probably won’t).
It is the type of player Geordies love to cheer on. A skilled player – with power, pace, skill and guile. If Keegan could find the next Henry that would be even better.
In a great phone in last night Keegan covered many open topics very diplomatically as every Geordie was chuffed to get through and welcome him ‘home’. It really is truely amazing the love Keegan receives up here – even from the women who respect him as well, both young and old.
He spoke of getting a place back at home for Peter Beardsley who is currently of the Smogs. How that happened who knows?
He also spoke of the situation with Shearer and how its not good at the moment and there will always be some role if he wants it when less commitments but more so that he see’s him as the manager of Newcastle United. Possibly after himself?
He spoke of transfers and related back to the types of players and football he liked and why he signed players in the past. He spoke of the Ginola’s of this world with his lack of pace which was great. He spoke of taking advantage of situations where players are unhappy and making them feel loved at Newcastle United.
He spoke of the transfer of Jonathan Woodgate and how it was a late move which was not going to happen early on. Many murmurings from Smogside was that he actually had to leave the North East for personal reasons and that Newcastle was a no go. Trouble certainly has followed Woody about…
He also spoke of the situation of Wise and that he likes him and was his prefered choice but not his decision. Its a board level decision clearly but one to aid the communication between board and football related matters. Wise is there to help Keegan. Keegan spoke of the structure being put in at the club which is clearly why Wise is there and explained how Wise had been unhappy in management and no longer wished to continue.
He spoke of getting our youth system right and how we are behind the leading clubs in this aspect and looking to get a setup in place to rival anyone. The years we have missed out on some of the top talent to even local rivals Boro was also discussed and how the club are now looking to address these matters at all levels.
Clearly plans are already in place for next season for transfers to pursue but we are all about consolidating on the pitch for the rest of the season. In many ways the players are playing for their jobs.
Its certainly interesting times ahead but we have to accept as fans we are in transition and that it is going to take a few seasons.
He also cleared up the issues surrounding the club when he left the last time. How he did not like how people were being treated and that it had gone to business instead of football with the floatation on the stock market. For him it was time to leave.
It was a great event to listen to Keegan who spoke geordie football sense in an honest and frank manner and will have cleared up a lot of questions fans had. The time flew by and it was great to feel we have honest answers about our club for the first time in a LONG time.
Lets all support Keegan and wish him all the best! Clearly the press will be out to get him at every opportunity but KK will get the time from the Geordies.

Great of Keegan to do two hours, shows how much he thinks of the fans. However good he may or may not be tactically etc it’s great to have a manager that really cares about the club, that you know wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. As for Henry, of course he’d be Keegan’s dream signing – he’d be any manager’s dream signing! The press love to have a dig at Newcastle, but once we start winning and signing players there won’t be much to laugh at any more…

Yeah once he starts changing things and bringing in players they won’t be laughing… WE WILL!
