My worry and I think the managements worry about Enrique atm is he was told to lose a small amount of weight and over the summer hes took it to task and lost too much. It means his strength has gone and they are building him back up. Sounds a bit like the Olivier Bernard scenario (blast from the past). Sure he'll sort it though. I think Enrique towards the end of last season started to look good. If he can shortly pick up from there then great. You are right about Bolton though. They will be a far more physical team than Manure. We just have to dig deep but I think we now have the players who will and with that little bit extra quality that will count for matching winning on the day. I hope it isn't a false dawn. If we pick up the 3 points against Bolton then the 1 point against Manure will mean alot and I honestly think they'll go into the Coventry and Arsenal games with nothing to fear!

well if owen is going, then saviola is a must, but if he is staying, then i'd prefer a tall, stronger striker, thats able to hold the ball up, and distribute to pacy strikers around him.. but i agree with Wes, if Keegan wants him, then we must get him (although the wages touted at 140k per week are ludicrous) Looking fwd to the bolton game, i didnt see them play this week, but they put three past an average (at best) stoke side. but they're a much more physical team that Manure, and will probably be up for a scrap.. i'm putting money on a 2-0 home win, with martins and jonas to score. i'd like to see enrique in the mix, far more physical than zoggy, and would like to see butt playing alot better than he did against his old club and controlling the defensive mid duties, and allowing Guthrie to set the strikers alight! Howay teh Lads!

Not sure if a Saviola is exactly what we need but he does have lots of skill and if Keegan wants him then that's good enough for me. All just rumour for me at the minute though and wouldn't suprise me if something completely different happened.

Arsenal look a bit light in the midfield area, which we actually looked quite decent in. 3 points against Bolton is a must-have tbh.

So, anyone any thoughts on this Javier Saviola rumour? Allegedly Wise & Co (sounds like a solicitors) are looking for a few more players and the Argentinian has been mentioned. I know he's not done alot at Barca, but maybe he's an untapped resource?

Haha Penti thats the way. It only counts though if we get 3 points at home to Bolton. If we do that then going into the Arsenal match away we'll be on a high and who knows...??? I wasnt overly impressed with the gunners opener. They aren't quite as invincible as they once were!

Well, I almost got it right !!!!

Great start to the season from several perspectives. New signings played well and goes to show that maybe Wise et al do know what they are doing. Great attitude displayed by the whole team, with good team spirit that can only help as the season progresses.

Anyone fell that it was a little ironic to see Big Sham in the ground. See Sham, thats the type of football we wanted!!!

Actually found myself wearing my Toon jacket and getting positive comments rather than piss-taking from the lads down the pub last night. And DAMN if that doesnt feel good.......

Who's the Hoekey Coekey?
I was over the moon with both the result and the performance. At the end of the day, one swallow does not a summer make, but the signs are hugely encouraging. If nothing else we'll have 11 men out there working hard for the team, going for the win and entertaining. That's all we can ever ask for.
Besides, I actually think that when all fit, we'll have a pretty strong 1st eleven... I also think we'll see another three players brought in, which should be enough when you take into account that most of the players that have left (essentially all of them barring Faye) added pretty much nothing to the first team anyway. A really decent new leftback will allow us to really attack teams, which will really help. Then it comes down to who we get in attacking midfield and who our big centre forward is...

What did you guys think of Guthrie by the way? Can he develop into the Rob Lee role or will he be more suited to attacking defences with his passing?

One downside though - I think the rumour about Owen might well be true. It simply stands to reason, if Owen doesn't sign by the end of the month, we have to sell him within this window. Otherwise we'd be forced to either break our wage structure to offer him what he wants (which you just can't do, even for a guy as good as him) or sell him at Christmas, half way through the season, for about £5m. I think Ashley, wisely, will rather sell him for £10m+ now and bring in another top/decent striker with the money.

Oh and as for Jonas? Yup, he's going to be a big favourite!

I honestly think by the time the transfer window closes we'll have another 3-4 bodies in. Mind you we lost Faye and are likely to lose the Hoekey Coekey. The sooner Ameobi shifts himself off our wage bill the better... If we can secure a couple more quality signings we will do alright this season. It is still early days but Jonas and Guthrie look like really good astute signings. Both look at this rate to be in the running for bargains of the summer. Coloccini did very well considering no English, his first game and half a training session. Found the pace fast the first 15-20 mins but slowly adapted. He even stated he is used to being able to make a few more passes. He made some good tackles on Rooney and some good clearance headers. Lets just hope this isn't a false dawn. Jonas is highly likely to become a cult hero mind... Our new Nobby favourite???? :D

Really great result. It did turn out to be a great time to play them with their depth showing a little weakness but we had some people out too. Jonas was a real class act, up and down like he promised and really looked like he was enjoying himself out there. Good on him, he will be a real favorite if he carries on like that. I thought Coloccini had a good game all things considered and one of the old boys Given keeping us in it again in the opening 15-20. Was a shame about the equaliser as with Taylor on the field I think we may have not conceded that. We looked physically strong and that's good because with the size of the squad they will need to be. Next!

when martins scored first.. my wife almost killed me... she was having an afternoon nap, while i was watching the game.. i yelled so loud i think my neighbours thought i was having a heart attack or something.. hehehe.. i was very impressed with the first game out.. i must say Jonas was very very impressive.. love the fact he has his first name on his shirt.. apparently he says cause he likes his name... i think Guthrie was very good.. marshalling teh midfield and making good runs, good passes.. good value for the 3 mill we paid. Colocinni started slowly, but i think in time he could make an excellent player.. needs a little more time to settle. All the lads pulled through yesterday, and we looked more like a team on the field, instead of a bunch of individuals trying to play.. Great Start.. lets hope we can carry this form on!
