Hoekey Coekey = Ameobi mate :)
Yes Guthrie looks a class act but hes still young. When its been pointed out what Spurs paid for Modric looks like we have been very wise with our signing. Guthrie has looked very good indeed. Alot still to learn and a long way to go but certainly could be our new Rob Lee. He seems to make himself so much time on the ball - never rushed and is a good passer of the ball across the whole pitch. It must be nice for the players out wide to now know they will receive the ball. He was my man of the match even though I love Jonas I think Guthrie was the unsung hero and will along with the rest of the signings be taken to Geordie hearts.

As long as you don't work in architecture - I've got the name "Nick Simpson Architects" all lined up thanks very much! ;)

I'll be interested to see Cacapa play if he has settled as whenever he was called upon last season he looked extremely uncomfortable even when playing well. That Portmouth game did so much damage to last years season it's untrue. Lets hope he really has banished that from his mind and is now on it because we will need him at some stage.

I guess there is likely to be more to the Faye transfer than meets the eye but I still can't agree it's a good thing. He was one of the defenders who didn't seem frightened and basically, well, we now have Taylor as a proven PL senior at CB (and he still has some points to prove). I have high hopes for Coloccini though and hope he adjusts quickly to the pace. They all really desperately to stay fit now though.

Sorry if that doesn't sound upbeat as I am but would be nice to have a strong and experienced depth in defence for a change. I've always seen that as vital. Tis my thoughts anyway.. :)

Lets have a real go at the Mancs! Anyone going?

I think based on the fee we paid for Faye then we have to say good business. He hasn't cost us for the year we have had him including his wages I would suspect. We've replaced him with a younger model in Bassong who looks capable and has no preconceptions and can be moulded into how we want him. Faye apparently had a spat last game of season at half time and was subsituted. I think because of that unsettling hes been shipped out. A sign of wrong attitude and your out!!! In Beye, Coloccini, Taylor, Edgar, Bassong and Cacapa I think we have the makings of a stabilising future at the back. A mixture of experience and youth. They are your pool of centre backs and a few of those can play in the full back positions as well. Id expect that most games it will be Coloccini and Taylor but this season Tayls must kick on. Expect another defender or 2 in though one certainly a left back and then a play maker and a striker. Its looking like Milner and Smith are certainly staying for this season with as we hoped KK expecting to work on both players to get the best out of them at long last. Im sure everyone of us would back them to the hilt if they start to produce what we have not seen. I am however worried up top. Yes Owen, Martins, Viduka, Smith, Carroll aint too bad but we know the injury records and we have to look to bring in a target man who can play a full season so we aren't reliant on Viduka who being honest is on his last legs at his age - great player on his day though. Then we are back to that playmaker. Its been the moan all preseason but looking at how things have panned out im not as concerned anymore yet still want one. Guthrie and Jonas look spot on... Duff coming to form... KK promising to get Milner to deliver more and Zog starting to look like hes gonna stay put and settle. Add to that the positive murmurings of the press conference yesterday with KK looking sharp we look like we are now going in the right direction. AT LAST. Lets just hope that now translates onto the pitch. Lets whatever happens put a decent show together against Manure. THE SEASON IS HERE!!!!

Firstly, Snick, do you mind if I ask you what your real name is? Please, be honest, there's a very good reason for asking (and not in a stalking way).

Secondly, sorry again for the absenteeism... I've joined the league finally! 11 Ugly Centrebacks - Something I sometimes wish we had at the club!

As for tomorrow, I really have no idea what will happen. I must admit though, I do wish N'Zogbia would get a run of games. Don't get me wrong, if Duff's back on form, great, but not many players at this club (none in fact currently) can match N'Zogbia when it comes to running at people and creating things (unlike Martins, who is faster but less creative), when he's on form. He can cross better than Milner (not hard) and is dangerous when he cuts in. As and when Butt is injured, as will happen, I'd even happily see Guthrie play as a holding player (when his game is developed) with N'Zogbia attacking through the middle.

Either way, I think Guittierez is going to be great for us this season. I really can't wait to see how he does.

And in regards to Faye, he wanted to leave. I have a funny feeling that Bassong is going to prove to be genuine competition for a centreback position, whereas Faye was almost always going to slip behind Coloccini and Taylor. With Cacapa more settled here now, Faye was someone we could cash in on. He's a good, strong player, but we can do without him and have players just as good (or better).

Plus we need the cash for our new left-back and forward...
