What Do You Think?
So after a complete dismantling from the Ronaldo and co. yesterday and the turning down from Delboy Trotter, how do you really feel if Alan Shearer and Kevin Keegan formed for a geordie partnership to try and turn things around? Do you think its perfect or a complete shambles? Could they attract the players and do you think Ashley would flash the cash? It is certainly one worth debating…

we need a manager sooner rather than later but the timing of it is perhaps beyond our control if we cant get the men we want. i cant help but be apprehensive about keegan & shearer partnership. i think id be more comfortable to just give it to shearer with someone like venables or houllier possibly recruited in a director of football role. i think the hardest thing for a rookie manager like shearer is recruitment of new players and getting the infrastructure in place and I think that is where someone with a broader knowledge opf european football will help. look at keane at the makems. they all think he is a hero for last seasons promotion but he clearly hasnt got a clue in the transfer market. i think shearer could get the team sorted but most managers live and die by the players they sign and thats what would worry me about his appointment. with keegan i just think we have had those days and its time to move on. we’ll never forget them but they wont be repeated so why risk ruining it by bringing him back. im not as against shearer being manager as i was as i think the club has sunk so low we dont have much to lose – and there arent that many better options out there anyway.

Yeah I don’t think we’ve got much to lose. Though compared to the other english managers Shearer is pretty much as good tbh. Say for instance Hughes… The only experience he has got is that hes done it. I can’t say tbh that Blackburn set the world alight? They have blips and had a massive one. All teams do though but I don’t see him being all that much better than Shearer apart from hes done it before but hes more for Man U?

I’m slowly coming around to the idea of Shearer to be honest… Keegan however has had his time so should be avoided. I can’t see Houllier being willing to part-retire into a Director of Football possession to be honest. An old head as Shearer’s deputy would work well though, although who that would be I’ve no idea.
Failing that, as I’ve said before, Van Gaal and then Houllier…

Couldnt agree anymore…

it looks like hughes is the favourite now. again that really fills me with nothing. apart from the fact that i couldnt stand the bloke as a player blackburn arent axactly free flowing. saying that he has a very good record in the transfer market getting players like bentley, santa cruz, mccarthy, nelson and samba at very reasonable prices. here’s a thought – if hughes does become our next boss what price on shearer being approached to replace him at blackburn. taking that on a step it could become a conveyor belt. hughes to the toon, shearer to blackburn. then in a few years hughes to man utd and shearer to the the toon. i need to get out more.

Im totally of the same thinking. I’ll be left feeling empty inside if we go for Hughes. What more does he offer than Shearer. I actually think its less of a risk. I actually think tbh unless its Shearer they should should scrap thinking about and English candidate. They werent good enough for England which speaks volumes. Go for a foreign manager. If they really want to mix it up approach Liverpool for Benitez. If Ashley backed him financially he’d come in. At present we look seriously misguided and with egg on our faces. Ashley needs to set out his stall and show hes a powerful owner who gets who he wants. No half baked ideas needs to be one of the best european managers with a reputation. Van Gaal, Mourinho, Benitez, Houllier, Lippi, Scolari… Needs to be a big name that can pull players from europe and worldwide and they need to be backed. Its time for Ashley to do the right thing now. Its going to speak volumes and he needs a rabbit out of the hat.

Hughes is definately the worng choice as far as im concerned.
I dont think Shearer would be the bad choice that many are making out in the media. Experience is everything and sometimes a poor-looking team can be turned around by having belief, confidence and enthusiasm injected back into them.
Would a Keegan/Shearer combo be the best choice? It would certainly win over the fans and it bring bring a style of football we all miss, but what of a long term plan? I’d throw my support behind it, but I’d like to see Mike Ashley throw his money behind it in a big way……..

Im off Houllier btw. I had a rethink digged around and reminded myself of his style and signings which were woeful. I asked a few liverpool fans they said dont go near…

Either way, Hughes aint the answer, if we’re going for a young, inexperienced manager we might as well go for Shearer!

How about Shearer as manager and vegetables (Venables) as his assistant/director?

I think if that was the case I think Shearer would go it alone. I think the only person he’d consider the partnership with would be Keegan.
